   Происхождение названия "чау-чау" имеет несколько объяснений. По одной версии, чау получил свое название в конце XVIII в. во время первых путешествий на клиперах из Китая в Англию, когда собаки содержались на корабле вместе с грузами. Это место на корабле и эти грузы назывались "чау-чау" ("Chow-Chow"). Вполне логично предположить, что и собаки, как часть этих грузов, могли позаимствовать это название...
   По другой версии, название породы происходит от китайского слова "Chaou", означающего "собака большой силы"...

   The origin of the name "chow-chow" has some explanations. Under one version, chow has received the name at the end of XVIII century during time the first travel on clippers from China to England, when dogs contained by the ship together with cargoes. This place by the ship and these cargoes referred to "chow-chow" ("Chow-Chow"). It is quite logical to assume, dogs as a part of these cargoes, could borrow this name...
   Under other version, the name of breed occurs from the Chinese word "Chaou", meaning " a dog of the big force"...
